The Korea Water Resources Association (KWRA), which is a non-profit organization founded in 1967 to improve hydrological technology, held its 2024 conference at Jeju Shinhwa World from May 8 to May 10. Researchers from our lab, including Subin (Integrated MS/PhD student), Seongjun (MS student), Dr. Hai (Postdoc), and Professor Hyunglok Kim, attended the conference.
Professor Hyunglok Kim organized the AGU-KWRA collaborative presentation session and invited Professor Venkataraman Lakshmi, a professor at the University of Virginia and the current AGU Hydrology President Elect, as a special guest. Dr.Hai presented in the AGU-KWRA oral presentation session. His presentation title is “Leveraging the TCA method and ML model to reconstruct long-term high-resolution SMAP soil moisture dataset from Land Surface Model”. At the same time, Subin and Seongjun presented their research in the poster session. Subin’s poster title is “Spatially Continuous Error Maps for Satellite-based Soil Moisture Data using Machine Learning Approach”, while Seongjun’s poster title is “Estimation of Water Quality using Harmonized Landsat and Sentinel-2”.
The conference featured various sessions showcasing research on topics such as digital twins, satellite remote sensing, monitoring extreme events, and forecasting using artificial intelligence technologies. For student researchers, the conference also prepared a career session, which allowed attendees to engage in direct Q&A and receive valuable guidance. Additionally, the exhibition hall highlighted many companies related to water resources, including K-Water. For our lab members, this first conference provided invaluable insights into domestic water research and presentation experiences, helping us prepare more effectively for future conferences.
